Global Shades

Adore Beauty, Australia’s leading online beauty retailer, began its movement towards positive change in 2017 when employee, Shanthi Murugan (pictured left), a South Asian woman of colour, wrote a letter to the company’s Founder, letting her know she was unable to shop for foundation and concealer on the Adore Beauty website.

The company began working with suppliers and brand partners to gain access to their global shade ranges. The end goal was to provide as much diversity as possible to customers, to ensure all Australians could find a foundation or concealer shade, regardless of skin tone.

Adore Beauty is working towards ranging over 2,600 different shades from 350 complexion products and have formed a dedicated category on its website called Global Shades. Independently other brands and retailers have also been taking their own steps to address this issue. We believe now is the time to enact change together. This is the company’s first phase of its movement to be more inclusive.
